Well, thank God the Hans Island dispute is just being fought between two internet sites. Considering Denmark spends $600US per Dane while Canada spends $300US per Canadian and that the Danish military is better equipped on land than us but we're (slightly) better equipped in the air and at sea it'll be a draw if a shooting war occurs.
OTTAWA (CP) - An Internet war between Canada and Denmark has gone global. Web watchers around the planet have been drawn into a tussle between a Canadian patriot and an unknown Danish adversary over an uninhabited Arctic island claimed by both countries.
E-mails have been fired off from Norway, South Korea and the United States, and Internet news sites in South Africa and Britain have covered the dispute over tiny Hans Island.
Why is this important? Well, its not the tiny little island that's at stake its the entire Canadian north that's at stake. If tiny little Denmark can take our land, everyone else can. With travelling between Asia and Europe via the Arctic quicker than the Panama Canal foreign ships and aircraft will most likely be declaring: "Sorry about polluting the area but hey, its international waters. What are you going to do about it?"
Oh, and there's supposed to be some untapped oil reserves up there that Europe is looking desperately at. Think they'll respect Canadian laws to get their hands on it?
Today's Local Weather Was: Sunny with some clouds.
